Keep That Serotonin Flowing .... SING
I’m obsessed with everything to do with the brain. Yes, I want to MAX mine out to full capacity. More is more - that’s the self-improvement addict in me. For over 20 years I’ve been studying nutrition, cognitive function and experimenting with a lot of supplements ( natural and not so much so ) to improve mood and balance. Technology has given us some amazing new tools- magnet therapy for depression, light therapy, electronic stimulation for the brain ( handheld even ) - I’ve tried a lot and there is always something new. But I also like to take it back to the old school. Fortunately, I have a dog, this requires that I go outside and walk him often. Old school- take a walk… Just as I like to layer up my mood hacks ( red light in my face while I do a headstand listening to chants, magic weighted blanket while I do guide meditation with my Fisher Wallace Brain Stim on - I like to layer up those low tech remedies. This involves me putting in one earbud and singing while I walk my dog. Fortunately, I live in an area that's not too congested and close to a bridge with a very loud subway. :)

The neuroscience of singing shows that when we sing our neurotransmitters connect in new and different ways. It fires up the right temporal lobe of our brain, releasing endorphins that make us smarter, healthier, happier and more creative.
I spent a few weeks in Asia this past Summer and every night had some element of karaoke in it, I own three machines ( one always out of loan )
The next time you are felling down- grab that mike and don’t put it down. Your brain and your mood will thank you, although some friends may not.
